Design of the CHIRON high-resolution spectrometer at CTIO
Small telescopes coupled to high resolution spectrometers are powerful tools for Doppler planet searches. They allow for high cadence observations and flexible scheduling; yet there are few such facilities. We present an innovative and inexpensive design for CHIRON, a high resolution (R~80.000) Echelle spectrometer for the 1.5m telescope at CTIO. Performance and throughput are very good, over t...
متن کاملSPHERES, Jülich's high-flux neutron backscattering spectrometer at FRM II.
SPHERES is a third-generation neutron backscattering spectrometer, located at the 20 MW German neutron source FRM II and operated by the Jülich Centre for Neutron Science. It offers an energy resolution (fwhm) better than 0.65 μeV, a dynamic range of ± 31 μeV, and a signal-to-noise ratio of up to 1750:1.
متن کاملDIRAC: A High Resolution Spectrometer for Pionium Detection
The DIRAC spectrometer has been commissioned at CERN with the aim of detecting ππ atoms produced by a 24 GeV/c high intensity proton beam in thin foil targets. A challenging apparatus is required to cope with the high interaction rates involved, the triggering of pion pairs with very low relative momentum, and the measurement of the latter with resolution around 0.6 MeV/c. The general character...
